VIP Updated information and Volunteer Opportunities
To: All Bent Tree West Homeowners
In June 2006 some of your neighbors started the Bent Tree West Volunteers
in Patrol (ViP) in cooperation
with Dallas Police. Since then we have reduced crime incidents in BTW.
Home break-ins were on the rise before launching the ViP program. Home break-ins are now virtually zero.
Car vandalism is the most frequent crime reported in BTW. Over 50% of
all crimes reported involve car vandalism and property thefts from cars
parked on the street or in driveways over night. Dallas Police tell us
that cars parked outside over night attract the criminal element and
that car break-ins are impossible to prevent. They advise that the best
preventative action is to park your car in your garage.
Three actions we want to take to further reduce crime in BTW:
- Build homeowner awareness that cars parked outside over night attract criminals who cruise the neighborhood looking for easy targets.
- Parking cars in garages removes the criminal attraction.
- Increase night time patrols, which means we need more volunteers for the ViP.

Bob will provide an application so you can take the required
Dallas Police training class.
Classes are scheduled for:
- January 24 - Saturday.
- March 4 and 5 - Wed, Thurs. (This is a two session evening class)
